This is my idea of a reboot of the character of Sonic the Hedgehog. In this universe, as a small child, he was the son of a loving low-class hedgehog couple; his father was involved with the humans and their military, while his mom was a homemaker. His family life was a modest, but happy one. However, one day, when his village as annexed by a powerful nation and its king, with its inhabitants all slaughtered in the process--including his parents. Days, later, before the victorious nation took over his village, one of the humans was exploring the open wilderness as he came across the now ruined city. As he looked at it in devastation, he came across the baby hedgehog and took it back to his military station to care for it.
As a few years went by, the Sonic (3-years old) lived among the humans. At first they had difficulties accepting him, because they have never saw a talking hedgehog before, over some time, they've grown to tolerate them--to an extent. One day, while Sonic was playing with his toy car, an old kid bullied him out of it and ran on his bike and rode away, Sonic, himself who didn't have a bike could not catch up to him. But he loved that toy car to much to let it go, so he tried to run after the bully, although running on foot would seem be futile against a kid on his bike. But the harder Sonic wanted to catch up to that kid,the faster he would run, even pushing beyond his own limits. He did catch the kid and snatch the toy out of his hands, retrieving it. Sonic realized that he moved much faster that he could ever do before. This amazed him, Later on that evening, he told his guardian about him new-found speed and how he was going to start running to become as fast as the wind.
As Sonic grew even older (ages, 5-12) he would go out running on the military base's trail, every day, making incredible progress, easily outrunning even the fastest soldiers. Hid guardian and his superior witnessed his speed, an the latter though of personally training the hedgehog in a top-secret program. He promised the this program would improved not only his speed, but his mind as well. Sonic was participating in various experiments--many of them had him challenging his movements. One experiment was that he was put on modified treadmills that he ran on with a spike pit in back of him, which forced him to keep up with the machine. Another one was an extremely long, difficult, and dangerous obstacle course with he was given a a very small, set amount of time to complete. Another was to test his strength in combat; Sonic did not know how to fight, naturally, so he relied on his spikes and "ball-form" (which he figured out how to perform while on the obstacle course) as his defense, while actually aided him, successfully. Another kind was to master his wits in extreme situations, such as rescuing dummies from dangerous places, as to make sure they were to remain "unharmed". From day to day, which turned into weeks, which turned into months, with turned into years, he repeated these as well as other experiments. Over time, they gave him leg weights to help build up his strength and speed, giving him heavier ones as time progressed. By age 12, he was one of the worlds fastest people. He even outran a bullet train just to prove how fast he was.
During that time, Sonic (age, 13) was told to remain at the base, while the armed force stationed there were ordered to help fight off a kingdom responsible for invading multiple nations and territories. It had been ten days since Sonic had last heard from any of them, including his guardian, so he sneaked off base in order to find him. As he came to to end of his search, he witnessed the corpses of him and the rest of his comrades--they were unable to defeat the kingdom, as Sonic teared up at his guardian's dead body, he grew furious and tracked down where their killers were at. Sonic found out that they were the same people who destroyed his native village and killed his parents. Sonic started to sneak by, killing many of the kingdom's soldiers in the process. when the king was informed of this, he commanded the rest of them to seized him. The soldiers tried to capture the hedgehog, but he was much to fast to catch and powerful to catch. Sonic then spotted the king and followed him to his room, killing anyone would would get in his way. At last the king was cornered, and Sonic was about to deliver the final blow, ready to end his life. Suddenly, a young girl's voice was calling out to the angered blue blur, who had the blood of many of the king's soldiers and royal guards on his hands and quills. She begged him to stop...and surprisingly, he did just that. Why did he do it? He did not know why at the moment, but it was ultimately because he realized he was about to kill the girl's father, which makes her the princess of the kingdom. She asked him why she wanted to kill her father...she then thought about the time her father hung two hedgehog's heads on his wall in his study--which she came to realized that they may have been Sonic's parents, seeing that they were they only blue hedgehog in the village that the king had destroyed years ago. She looked at her father in fearful disbelief as he had a guilty look on his face. He begged the hedgehog to back off from him, as he had A WHOLE LOT of explaining to do...
...meanwhile the human cavalry troops came to the demolished kingdom to see where Sonic was located at. They were indeed surprised and shock to see that Sonic, himself...single-handedly defeated an entire kingdom and its military! Even Sonic guardian who was revealed to still be alive (although severely injured) saw what happened. They all came to the were Sonic was at with the king. The king made a deal with the human armed forces that he would from an alliance with them. He apologized to Sonic for killing his parents and destroying his birthplace--his daughter even begged her father to let Sonic to join them as part of the Freedom Fighters group she had recently formed; they need help fighting off an even greater evil than their kingdom was before Sonic came along. He accepted, but under one condition--that the kingdom would stop destroying and taking over other territories and hurting it people. They accepted his request.
Today, Sonic (age 15) is helping the Kingdom of Knothhole, thwarting the evil forces of Dr. Ivo Robotnik (Dr. Eggman). His relationship with the kingdom, its king, and its princess has come a long way--especially since they were once considered his mortal enemies, whom had destroyed his old town and his parents in the past. However, he had long since forgiven them, by now.
Sonic, in this timeline, is much more mature than that of the original, rather than having an impulsive attitude and being arrogant, he is somewhat cold, calm, collective, and extremely serious about his duties as a member of the Freedom Fighters. He has a no-nonsense and even sometimes, very violent approach to dealing with his enemies, instilling fear inside each and one of them. However, his has a caring heart inside this exterior, as he does want to make sure his friends are safe and happy, after all.
